| My name was originally Sophie but I later changed it accepting the Orthodox faith. I lived from 1729-96 in Russia as a czarina. The time period I was associated with was the Enlightenment period. I investigated in my husband who was an eccentric man so I made friends with soldiers; government officials. My husband succeeded to the throne but mysteriously died a few months later. In 1762, a group of conspirators led by my lover made me czarina shortly after my husband's death. I decided to increase Russia's power by attacking its weaker neighbors which were Poland and the Ottoman Empire. I succeeded and as a result made Russia the dominant country in the Middle East. |

People have told me that i have a firm hand towards my ruling in Russia. I had first began my ruling by creating great projects of reform. I had wanted to create an Enlightened code laws. Also my first war with the Ottoman Empire that took place during the the time of 1768. whihc this later on ended the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji, this made Russia the Dominant power in the Middle East.
I've tired to control the waeker neighbors of Russia which are Poland and the Ottoman Empire. By the time of 1767, I had summoned an assembly draft to enforce new code laws for Russia. This involved equality of the citizens that everyone should be subjected to the same laws. Everyone being citizen should be treated the same as to the rich people. |

| The Enlightenment period is one of the most remarkable times of history which took place during the 18th century (1700's) in France and Great Britan. During this time, people argued about reason. Other important people aside from myself are John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Mary Wollstonecraft. What was being investigated was literature, philosophy, the first Encyclopedia, forms of government, and how to make society progress. The revolution and change that occurred was the spread of idea that government exists for the people, enlightenment ideas inspired people to start a Revolution, and more freedom for women. I, Catherine the Great, am an important part of the Enlightenment period because I increased Russia's power and inspired people. |
